[VIDEO]:Malian teammates fight as team crashes out of Women’s Basketball World Cup

Two players on the Malian Women’s Basketball Team were involved in a scuffle after the team officially exited the ongoing 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup.

This has caused basketball world governing body FIBA to open an investigation into the matter.

Mali lost 68-81 to Serbia in the penultimate Group B game that confirmed the West African nation’s exit from the world competition taking place in Australia.

However, Malian players Salimatou Kourouma and Kamite Elisabeth Dabou got into a scuffle that interrupted Serbia’s Sasa Cabo’s interview in the mixed zone.

Reasons behind the cause of the fight are yet to be determined but FIBA has since stated it has opened investigations into the embarrassing moment.

“Following the incident, FIBA has opened an investigation. Once the investigation is concluded, FIBA will decide on any applicable disciplinary measures” the statement read.

Mali lost all five games in Group B with the last of five losses coming against Canada where Mali lost 65-88. Mali qualified to the Women’s World Cup by virtue of reigning African champion Nigeria’s shock decision to pull out of the competition to fix administrative challenges.
