Fatawu Issahaku makes long awaited Champions League debut

Prodigious Ghanaian winger, Fatawu Issahaku, made his highly anticipated debut in the UEFA Champions League last night for Portuguese side, Sporting Lisbon.

The 18 year old left footer featured in Sporting Lisbon’s 0-2 loss to French side Olympique Marseille on Game day 4 of Europe’s elite club football competition.

Fatawu’s Sporting Lisbon completed the game with just nine men as Ricardo Esgaio and Pedro Goncalves were sent off after getting booked twice respectively.

Issahaku came on as a 22nd minute substitute, to replace Japanese international Hidemasa Morita, as Sporting was forced to make changes in the wake of Esgaio’s sending off.

Former Dreams FC player Issahaku had made it to the bench in all three Sporting games prior to tonight’s contest but missed on competing in any of those games.

Issahaku moved to Sporting from betPawa Ghana Premier League side Dreams this offseason and his debut marks an important step in his fledgling football career after he scored his debut goal for Ghana’s Black Stars in a 1-0 win over Nicaragua in a friendly game.

Sporting ranks third in Group D with six points and plays group leaders Tottenham Hotspurs next on Wednesday, October 26.
