Issahaku in buoyant mood after making Champions League debut

Ghanaian winger, Fatawu Issahaku, has played his debut game in the UEFA Champions League and is in buoyant mood despite his debut coming in a loss.

Issahaku’s Sporting Lisbon lost 0-2 to French side Olympique Marseille on Game day 4 at the group stage in the 2022-2023 season.

Sporting ended the game with just nine men after Ricardo Esgaio and Pedro Goncalves were shown two yellow cards apiece forcing head coach Ruben Amorim to make changes to his personnel.

Issahaku was introduced into the game in the 22nd minute to replace Japan international Hidemasa Morita marking the 18 year old’s first run out in the elite competition after making it to the bench in three prior games.

Despite the 0-2 loss, former Dreams FC player Issahaku was in buoyant mood and channeled this feeling on his Twitter page by stating, “Painful lost last night but as a great warriors we get back stronger. we are together”.

Issahaku recently scored his debut goal for Ghana’s Black Stars in the 1-0 win over Nicaragua in a friendly game in Spain.

He is in a strong position to feature in Sporting’s upcoming Champions League game against Tottenham Hotspurs on Wednesday, October 26 with Lisbon set to miss the services of Esgaio and Goncalves due to an automatic one game suspension.
