UCL: Denis Odoi anchors Club Brugge’s “Clean Sheet” run to historic Round of 16 qualification

Black Stars defender, Denis Odoi, has played a pivotal role in Belgian side Club Brugge’s first ever qualification to the Round of 16 stage in the UEFA Champions League.

Club Brugge booked its place in the knockout stage with two games to spare after recording a goalless draw with Atletico Madrid in Spain.

Fellow Ghanaian Kamal Sowah was sent off against Atletico after receiving a second yellow card for kicking the ball away over an infringement spotted by the referee.

The draw means Brugge has not conceded in four games played this season in Europe’s elite club football competition while recording three wins.

34 -year-old Odoi has lasted the entire duration in all four games for Brugge leading the Belgian team’s excellent run in this season’s Champions League.

Odoi is in a strong position to be named in the Black Stars squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar that has Ghana drawn in Group H with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Belgium-born Odoi played for Ghana in a recent friendly game against Brazil in a pre-World Cup friendly game.
