Mudasiru Salifu makes debut start in Europa League

Ghanaian midfielder Mudasiru Salifu, who is on loan from Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has made his first ever start for Sheriff Tiraspol in the UEFA Europa League.

The 25 year old started in Sheriff’s 0-3 loss to Spanish side Real Sociedad in Game Day 4 action in Europe’s second tier competition.

Salifu also played out the entire duration of the contest that had Ivorian defender Armel Juniour Zohouri sent off for a second bookable offence in the 33rd minute.

Mudasiru was deployed in the middle of a three man midfield in a 5-3-2 setup by the Moldovan club but picked up the game’s first yellow card in the 14th minute.

The versatile midfielder has played in all four Sheriff games in the Europa League but prior to playing Real Socieded in Spain, Mudasiru had yet to start a game.

Mudasiru joined Sheriff this immediate past offseason from reigning betPawa Ghana Premier League champions Kotoko with the loan deal set to expire on December 31, 2022 with the option to buy.

Since joining Sheriff, Mudasiru has played in 16 games and seen out eight of those games. Sheriff ranks third in Group E with three points from winning once in four outings.
