La Liga, Spanish Embassy host El Classico viewing party in Accra

The world came to a standstill on October 16, when Spain’s two biggest teams, Real Madrid and Barcelona, locked horns in this season’s first installment of the “El Classico”.

La Liga, in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Ghana, hosted a viewing party in Accra to celebrate the meeting of the two powerhouses.

The event was graced by big wigs from the Ghanaian football fraternity, including ex players, football administrators and journalists.

Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, was present along with his ex Ghana teammates, Kwadwo Asamoah, Derek Boateng, Isaac Vorsah, among others.

Ambassador of Spain to Ghana, Javier Gutierrez, in his welcoming address, highlighted the unifying force of football and its role in global development.

“I think there are not many events like this. I feel very proud to be here with you in such a beautiful place.

“Despite the numerous challenges we are having in the world, football teaches us a good lesson such as the importance of cooperation in doing things peacefully and promoting good values.

“I am also happy that football in Ghana is also promoting those values just like in Spain,” he said.

Real Madrid run away 3-1 winners on the day, with goals from Karim Benzema, Fede Valverde and Rodrygo, with Ferran Torres grabbing a consolation for the visitors.

There was a mini predict and win competition, with individuals who predicted the correct scoreline, handed prizes at the end of the game.

The event was supported by the Embassy of Spain Accra, SuperSports, Ireva Sports Agency and Offshore Pharmacy.
