Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu has signed a two-year contract extension with French Ligue 1 side, Clermont Foot.

The contract extension was announced this morning in a move that ties the 22-year-old to the club till June 2027; prior to the extension, Seidu’s contract was expected to end on June 30, 2025.

The former JMG Academy (based in Ivory Coast) product has been with Clermont since August 1, 2020 and played a key role in the team’s rise from Ligue 2 to the French top flight.

For the 2022-2023 season, Seidu has played and started in all 11 league games for Clermont and has lasted the entire duration in nine of them.

Seidu recently made his international debut for Ghana in a friendly game against Nicaragua, which the Black Stars won 1-0.

He was on the bench in Ghana’s 0-3 loss to Brazil prior to that game.

He is a versatile defender who plays on the right side or in central defence, and is in the mix to get called up for the Black Stars’ 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar.

Clermont Foot ranks eighth in the 18-team French league standings with five wins, two draws and four losses.

The team drew 1-1 with AS Monaco in the previous round and is scheduled to play Brest on Sunday, October 23.
