I hope it’s not too serious – Strasbourg Coach on Djiku injury

Strasbourg head coach Julien Stephan is hopeful an injury Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku picked up recently isn’t “too serious”.

Djiku picked up what looked like a hamstring injury in Strasbourg’s 2-2 draw with Toulouse in the latest round of French Ligue 1 games.

The former Bastia player was forced to leave the game in the 25th minute due to the injury sparking fears he might end up missing the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Strasbourg coach Stephan also hopes the 28 year old who was heavily courted by TSG Hoffenheim’s injury situation isn’t as bad as it looked against Toulouse.

“Alex has a little muscle problem. It pulled on the hamstring a bit, I hope it’s not too serious’ Stephan said in a postgame interview. Strasbourg ranks 16th on the 20 team league standings.

Djiku is heavily tipped to get selected to the Black Stars team that competes at this year’s World Cup after playing a starring role in Ghana’s qualification to the World Cup for the fourth time.

Ghana is drawn in Group H in Portugal with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
