Emmanuel Boateng scores winner after Black Stars World Cup snub

Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Boateng has responded to not getting a call-up to the Black Stars’ provisional squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad by scoring the winning goal for Rio Ave this weekend.

The 26-year-old forward scored in Rio’s 1-0 win over Boavista in the latest round of games in the Portuguese league.

Boateng scored the winner in the 64th minute after beautifully controlling a long pass from defender, Josue to slot the ball past Boavista keeper Rafael Bracalli.

The goal is Boateng’s fourth in eight games this season. The Ghanaian was replaced in the 81st minute by Renato Pantalon.

Compatriot, Abdul Aziz Yakubu lasted the entire duration of the game; he has five goals and three assists in 12 games this season.

Both players were ignored by Black Stars handlers for the 55-man provisional squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

Six strikers, including Athletic Bilbao forward, Inaki Williams and Cremonese forward Felix Afena-Gyan were called up to the squad.
