Black Stars goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott misses Charlton game to reported finger injury

Wollacott

Ghana Black Stars goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott got replaced mere minutes ahead of Charlton Athletic’s League One game against Burton Albion to a suspected finger injury.

The shot stopper was named as a starter two hours prior to kickoff but was replaced in goal by Craig MacGillivray 12 minutes before the start of the game.

Reports indicate Wollacott injured his finger during warm ups and checked out of the warm up session but didn’t make a return with MacGillivray maintaining his spot as a starter.

Wollacott was coming off an inspired performance in the Carabao Cup after pulling off a save in Charlton’s 5-4 win in a penalty shootout over Stevenage to progress to the Round of 16.

The injury comes right before Ghana’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup is officially named by head coach Otto Addo on Monday, November 14.

Wollacott is in the running to be named to the Black Stars squad that represents Ghana at the World Cup for the fourth time. Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori is heavily tipped to be named to the squad.

Ofori

Ofori missed out on Orlando Pirates 6-5 win on penalties in the Black Label Cup semifinals played out earlier today to injury.
