Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has opined his team is confident enough to beat Uruguay in the final round of 2022 FIFA World Cup Group H games.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 15:00 GMT on Friday, December 2 with Uruguay in desperate need of a win after picking up just a point in two games.

Uruguay drew goalless with South Korea and lost 0-2 to Portugal but Ghana beat South Korea 3-2 after losing 2-3 to Portugal.

The lead trainer of Ghana’s Senior Men’s National Football team Addo relayed this in an interview with Ghana Football Association (GFA) Head of Communications Henry Asante Twum.

The Black Stars rekindled hopes of progressing to the Round of 16 stage after recording a 3-2 win over South Korea. Ghana needs to avoid a loss to stay in contention for qualification.

“Surely we want to win. The good thing is at the end if it’s a draw, it’s also good for us but we want to win this game…We will try to do our best to win this match and I think we are confident enough to know that we can beat them” he stated.

Ghana and Uruguay share a grudge history following events in the 2010 World Cup that had Uruguay striker Luis Suarez deliberately handle a goal bound header from Dominic Adiyiah.

Mohammed Kudus scored the winning goal in Ghana’s 3-2 win over South Korea

Asamoah Gyan missed the ensuing penalty kick and eventually lost the penalty shootout to exit at the quarterfinal stage.
