Teams arrive for Ghana National Basketball Championship

The Cape Coast Stadium will host the Ghana National Basketball Championship from December 12 to December 22.

The competition in Ghana’s Central regional capital is to be held under the theme: “Rallying for Development” and a handful of teams have arrived at the University of Cape Coast (UCC). UCC’s Sports Hall will also host some games.

The championship returns after a lengthy period of absence, and is an initiative by the Ato Van-Ess-led Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA), to build up a vibrant Ghanaian basketball system.

36 teams are due to compete in the tournament, with 18 teams in the male division and 18 teams in the female division.

Representatives from 10 of Ghana’s 16 regions and education bodies GHATUSA (Ghana Technical Universities Sports Association), GUSA (Ghana University Sports Association), and GES (Ghana Education Service), are penciled in to participate in the tournament.

Basketball Clubs of Ghana security service agencies including Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service and Ghana Revenue Authority are on the roster of competing teams.
