Ati Zigi named Best Player in First Round of Swiss League

Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has been named as the best player in the first round of games in the Swiss Super League.

This comes on the back of the 26 year old shot stopper’s debut run in the FIFA World Cup; Ati-Zigi played out all three games in the group phase for Ghana in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Former Red Bull Salzburg player, Ati-Zigi, got the most votes ahead of fellow nominees David Douline of Servette FC, Koro Konne of Yverdon Sport FC, Valon Fazliu of FC Aarau and Cedric Itten of Young Boys.

Ati-Zigi, who plays for St. Gallen, ranks fourth in the league in goals prevented (1.7) after making 58 saves in 14 league games in the 2022-2023 season.

His impressive performances have helped St. Gallen rank third in the 10 team league standings behind leaders Young Boys and second placed Servette.

St. Gallen returns to league action on January 22 against fifth ranked FC Basel in the first set of games in the post-World Cup schedule.
