I was buzzing when I saw him score-Reading Coach speaks on Kelvin Abrefa’s goal

Reading FC v Watford - The Emirates FA Cup 3rd Round

Reading Football Club head coach Paul Ince has expressed his excitement over Italian born Ghanaian right full back Kelvin Opoku Abrefa’s debut goal in the FA Cup.

Abrefa scored one of two Reading goals to get past Watford and book a spot in the fourth round of the 2022-2023 FA Cup campaign.

Reading plays Manchester United at Old Trafford on January 28.

The 19 year old scored what many believe to be a fluke goal as his attempted cross from the right side sailed into the net over Watford’s goalkeeper Maduka Okoye’s head in added on time in the first half. (Click highlighted text to watch goal)

Speaking in the post game interview with Reading’s media outlet, Ince stated, “It’s brilliant. I was buzzing when I saw him score and you could see the big smile on his face. I think his family were there watching him. I remember my [first goal] and it’s a brilliant feeling. You can’t top it.”

The goal was Abrefa’s second in his professional career; the 19 year old represented Ghana at the Under 20 level recently at the Maurice Revello Tournament in 2022 against Indonesia’s Under 19 side.

Abrefa is eligible to represent England or Ghana at the senior level since he grew up in England.

Black Stars defender Baba Rahman played 86 minutes in the contest; Rahman competed with Ghana’s Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
