Ghana League ranking certainly affect prices of our players- Bechem United Prez

Bechem United President Kingsley Owusu Achiaw has opined the low ranking of the betPawa Ghana Premier League affects the low transfer valuation of players in the league.

He said this in an exclusive interview with CITI Sports on the sidelines of the 47th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre recently.

Owusu Achiaw was honored with a Meritorious Award at the event for his long standing efforts in football administration.

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) didn’t rank the Ghanaian top tier division in its list of the top 80 men’s football leagues in the world. The list had Egypt and Algeria’s top divisions ranked 13th and 20th in the world.

Speaking on the subject, the veteran administrator believes there is a direct correlation between the ranking and the valuation of players considering the Brazilian league was ranked the best in the world and the South American nation’s has had a string of league players generate hefty transfers.

Real Madrid signed Vinicius Jr. from Flamengo in 2018 for 38 million Pounds; the Spanish club recently signed 16 year old Endrick from Palmeiras for a deal that could be worth up to 72 million Euros.

“If you are able to compete at that high stage, they know you have quality players but if you are not seen even at the African level, who do you expect to come and buy ordinary players. So the ranking will certainly affect the market prices of our players that is obvious” he said.

Bechem United beat Real Tamale United 6-2 to move to second place in the Ghana league.
