Agent of Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu, Nana Owusu Sechere, has provided a detailed account of Atsu’s movement in the lead up to his apartment getting hit by one of two earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6.
The earthquakes have claimed the lives of over 2,000 people with over 10,000 people reported injured and Atsu’s whereabouts are yet to be confirmed though he was reportedly trapped under earthquake rubble.
“The last I heard from him was at midnight on Sunday. Christian and his team-mates were playing poker until 3:30am at a friend’s apartment. The journey back to his apartment was around half an hour. He returned at 4am and the earthquake started around 20 minutes later.
I didn’t know anything until I received a call from a club official at 5am asking if I’d heard from Christian. He told me Christian’s building had been completely destroyed and that they couldn’t get hold of him” he said according to British media outlet The Mirror.

Frantic efforts continue in the search for Atsu who represented Ghana’s Black Stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
