Former Black Stars striker Emmanuel Clottey is still in utter disbelief that Ghanaian player Christian Atsu is dead and has stated that until he see the lifeless body of the former winger in person, he won’t believe Atsu has passed away.

He said this in an exclusive interview with CITI Sports after Atsu’s manager Nana Sechere announced Atsu had passed away on Saturday, February 18 after being buried under earthquake rubble since two earthquakes hit Turkey on February 6.

“I still won’t believe unless it (his body)…I don’t know what to say for now unless I see the body (of Atsu) because since day one, I don’t want to believe it till now” Clottey said.

Clottey played with Atsu at the 2013 AFCON held in South Africa that had Atsu score in a 3-0 win over Niger to qualify Ghana to the quarterfinals.

Former Newcastle United and Bournemouth player Atsu’s whereabouts remained unknown since the earthquake hit a fortnight ago until his lifeless body was discovered under the rubble of his collapsed apartment in Hatay.

He scored the winning goal for Hatayspor in a 1-0 win over Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super League.
