‘Hughton is working’ – GFA General Secretary Prosper Addo

GFA General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo has assured Ghanaians that new Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton has begun his work, despite not being officially presented to Ghanaians.

Speaking exclusively to Citi Sports, the GFA General Secretary revealed that a family tragedy had disrupted plans for his unveiling.

“We had a 4-man team which Chris was part of so he is not new to us. He is now head of the team and this allows us to get some continuity. We had planned to do the unveiling but he lost his father recently so he was unable to travel. Though he is still preparing, he has not come [back].”

He added:

“He is working towards the deadlines involved with call-ups.”

When asked if Hughton would be on the bench for our upcoming AFCON qualifiers with Angola, Addo replied in the affirmative.

“Yes, our match is on the 23rd and he is working towards that. National team coaches are always working, even when they aren’t with the team but they are constantly liaising with the players and giving them instructions.”

Background:

Former Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton was appointed as Black Stars’ head coach last month after a spell as technical director. Hughton was appointed ahead of Ghana’s two-legged World Cup Qualifier against Nigeria and held the role during Ghana’s 2022 World Cup campaign.
