Accra Hearts of Oak are still title contenders – David Ocloo

Assistant Coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, David Ocloo has refused to rule out his side’s chances of clinching the Ghana Premier League title this season despite their topsy-turvy performance in the local top flight league.

The 2020/21 Premier League Champions managed to salvage a point at the Duns Park, where they played Bibiani Gold Stars on Matchweek 21 of the 2022/23 Betpawa Premier league.

Evans Owusu grabbed the opening goal for the home side in the 6th minute, before Isaac Mensah drew level for the Phobians in the dying embers of the game.

Asked about the team’s pursuit of clinching the title this season for the 22nd time in the Club’s history, Ocloo remained optimistic of catching up with table toppers Aduana Stars.

“Yes of course, we have about 39points more, we can still win the premier league this season”

“Goal scoring has been a problem this season, however we are still working on our finishing”

“Isaac Mensah scored today, what it means is that something is changing with our attackers, we are in transition phase, the players will come good”.

Accra Hearts of Oak now sit 4th on the league standings with 32 points, a point above arch-rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko and 4 points adrift off league leaders Aduana Stars who are yet to play their respective opponents.

The Phobians take on struggling Kotoku Royals next at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
