Abysmal CHAN display to blame for absence of local players in Black Stars – Annor Walker

Black Galaxies Head Coach Daniel Annor Walker believes Ghana’s poor showing at the 2022 CHAN tournament in Algeria played a major role in the absence of local players in the 25-man squad called up by Black Stars Head Coach Chris Hughton.

No local player made the cut for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers which has generated concerns surrounding the quality of the local top flight league.

The Black Galaxies exited the 2022 Total Energies African Nations Championship in Algeria at the Quarter-final stage following the 2-0 loss to Niger at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran.

“It could be so, if we had won the trophy, definitely he would have asked or would have contacted the technical team so we recommend one or two players to the senior national team”.

“The coach did the call-ups, maybe he doesn’t know much about the locally-based players especially with the CHAN team”.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s Danlad Ibrahim and EX- Hearts of Oak Star man Daniel Afriyie Barnieh who now plies his trade with Swiss side FC Zurich were the only locally based players for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar under Former Coach Otto Addo.
