Ghanaian centre, Nathan Mensah, has drawn rave reviews for his defensive performances as San Diego State University Men’s Basketball team sealed its place in the US College Basketball National Championship Round of 16 stage.

San Diego beat Furman University 75-52 to progress to the Sweet 16 stage with the 6-foot, 10-inch Mensah registering six points, nine rebounds, an assist and two blocks in 23 minutes.

Speaking in the post game interview after the loss, Furman Guard JP Pegues talked up Mensah’s defensive prowess.

“When they have the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year [Nathan Mensah], it makes things even more difficult with his shot-blocking ability and being able to contest some shots at the rim.”

24-year-old Mensah is in his final year with the Aztecs and has won the Mountain West Division Defensive Player of the Year Award twice in his college career.
