Commey will approach Ramirez bout with caution – Michael Amoo-Bediako

Manager for Richard Commey, Michael Amoo Bediako has hinted that his boxer will take a cautious approach to his upcoming fight against Jose Ramirez on March 25 in Fresno, California.

Richard Commey will be making his second appearance at the WBC Super Lightweight Division after managing a split draw against Jose Pedraza back in August 2022.

Speaking to Citi Sports – Michael Amoo-Bediako says Commey has a strategy which will be implemented against his American opponent.

“Every fight is important for Richard, we  are feeling good, we feeling confident, I have spoken to Richard on a number of occasions, we are hoping for a great performance from him.”

“If you look at the calibre of fights Richard fought in the last fights, it is elite calibre, he lost against one of the best ever in Vasily Lomachenko, he drew with Pedraza because he sustained a cut in the 6th round.”

The main feature bout on a busy night for Top Rank Boxing at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma was an entertainment filled 10 round clash between the former world champions back in August.

Judges scored the bout 97-97 for Pedraza, 96-94 for Commey and 95-95 that earned Commey a split draw decision on his junior welterweight (140 pounds) debut.

When quizzed about how much the Ghanaian boxer has evolved from the draw back in August against Pedraza, Michael Bediako revealed Richard Commey picked some positives from the fight.

“When you fight your first fight in a new weight, you don’t expect to fight a world Champion and someone of that class.”

“The best thing he took from that fight is that he belongs to that weight class and at that level.”

Richard Commey turned professional back in 2011 and primarily fought in his home country of Ghana to start his career.

He failed to win the IBF lightweight title against Robert Easter Jr. in 2016 but eventually won the belt by defeating Isa Chaniev in 2019.

Since losing the belt to Teofimo Lopez in his second defense back in December 2019, Commey has gone 1-1-1.

His last fight was a split decision draw against Jose Pedraza

Jose Ramirez and Richard Commey will take to the ring this Saturday, March 25th, in a 12-round light welterweight contest at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
