GHPL Week 26 wrap: Aduana beat struggling Great Olympics to maintain top spot

Aduana Stars FC maintained top spot after matchweek 26 despite a nervy game against struggling Accra Great Olympics. A second half goal from Frank Owusu was enough to earn Paa Kwesi Fabin’s side all 3 points.

Medeama’s resurgence continues as they pursue Aduana Stars for the league title. A 26th minute penalty from Vincent Atinga was enough as they saw off Karela FC. The Tarkwa based side are now 3 points behind the league leaders.

Hearts of Oak’s dreams of reclaiming the league title from rivals Asante Kotoko was given a boost when they pipped Nsoatreman FC by 2 – 1 at the Accra Sports Stadium. An own goal from Philip Ofori and a second half finish from youngster Yaw Baafi were enough to give the Phobians the victory. Samuel Ofori’s 68th minute goal was merely a consolation for the away side.

Berekum Chelsea stayed true to their word of denting Asante Kotoko’s title aspirations when they made light work of the Porcupine Warriors at the Golden City Park. The 3 – 0 victory moved them up to 8th on the league log and left Kotoko eight points behind the league leaders Aduana Stars.

In a battle of the relegation threatened sides Legon Cities gave their survival hopes a boost with a convincing 2 – 0 win over bottom placed side Kotoku Royals. Michel Otuo grabbed a brace to give Maxwell Konadu’s side a much needed 3 points after a rugged run in their last three matches.

King Faisal’s revival under Ignatius Fosu continued with a 2 – 1 home win against Dreams FC. The once relegation threatened Faisal have now moved up to 10th on the table after matchweek 26.

Hafiz Konkoni grabbed a brace to take top spot in the goal scorers chart in the league despite Bechem United’s 3 – 2 defeat to Tamale City. He now has 12 goals and leads Mezack Asante of Berekum Chelsea by a lone goal.
