Nathan Opoku’s OH Leuven miss out on Belgian League Playoff spot

Ghanaian striker Nathan Opoku won’t compete in the 2022-2023 Belgian Jupiler Pro League playoffs stage after failing to finish the regular season in the top ranked eight spots.

Leuven ended the campaign in 10th place winning 13 games, drawing nine and losing 12 games; the team won three games in a row before the conclusion of the campaign.

The top four ranked teams, Genk, Union- Saint Gilloise, Antwerp and Club Brugge, will compete in the Championship round for the chance to win the league title.

Ghana’s Joseph Painstil (Genk), Denis Odoi and Kamal Sowah of Club Brugge are in line to compete for the league title. Paintsil headlines the Ghanaian group thanks to his excellent campaign after registering 14 goals and 14 assists in 30 league games.

Gent, Standard Liege, Westerlo and Cercle Brugge who occupy the fifth to eighth spots will battle for the chance to progress to the Europa Conference League playoffs stage.

In his debut season as an on loan center-forward from Leicester City, 21 year old Opoku scored three goals and added an assist to his tally in seven league outings.
