Ghanaian midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng says he fully understands Hertha Berlin fans that are disappointed and sad after the team’s relegation from the Budesliga to Bundesliga 2.

He said this in a post game interview after Hertha’s 1-1 draw with Bochum at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium with the result confirming Hertha’s relegation to the lower league.

The veteran midfielder was emotional after the game with the German capital city team set to end the season ranked bottom of the 18 team league standings after picking up just six wins.

“I can’t realize it yet. It is just bitter, I love this club. I came here and I knew that not everything would be rosy. The fans are angry, disappointed and sad, that is completely normal. I can understand them, I am a Hertha fan myself.”

The 36 year old has played 16 games in the Bundesliga this season with a sole appearance coming in the German Cup.
