We have a very good team, a mixture of great players in the Black Stars – Tariq Lamptey

Brighton & Black Stars Player Tariq Lamptey has described his experience with the national team as amazing.

The 22-year-old switched his international allegiance from England to Ghana and represented the country at the World Cup in Qatar, where Ghana faced South Korea, Portugal, and Uruguay in Group D.

Tariq Lamptey featured against Portugal and South Korea and was subsequently named on the bench against Uruguay in the final game of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The diminutive right-back also featured in the pre-World Cup friendlies against Switzerland, in which he made his debut, and Brazil.

In an interview with Bernard Avle on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, Tariq Lamptey highlighted the quality of the Black Stars set-up.

“It is amazing. It is a very good team and there is a mixture of some great players playing all over Europe. The boys made it very easy to come into the team and it is like a family environment. We enjoyed it together and we know where we can get to.”

Lamptey hasn’t played since a knee injury forced him off 16 minutes into the 4-0 home win against West Ham on March 4.

He has featured 26 times in all competitions this season for Brighton & Hove Albion and he has a goal and assist to his name.

The Ghanaian is likely to miss out on the next set of the 2023 Afcon qualifiers against Madagascar and the Central African Republic following an injury he is currently nursing.

Speaking on the injury he picked with club side Brighton & Hove Albion, Lamptey expressed optimism to bounce back sooner rather than later.

“Towards the end of the season, I suffered something (of a) small  (injury), but I am working hard on recovery to be back soon.”

“I just have to just keep working hard and it’s nothing too serious.”

Lamptey is in Ghana to do some charity work with his foundation and he will be in Asamankese in the Eastern Region and in Ablekuma in the Great Accra Region. He will hold some coaching clinics for children and make some donations as well in his bid to give back to society.
