FIBA Africa Under 16 Tournament: Team Ghana is made up of players from academies- Ghana Basketball Vice President

Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA) Vice President Alex Kukula has stated teams set to represent Ghana at this year’s FIBA Africa Under 16 Tournament are made up of players picked from basketball academies in the Greater Accra Region.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports ahead of the tournament that runs from June 22 to June 24 at the Eden Heights Sports Complex.

After pointing out the reason for the low number of participating nations in the competition, Vice President Kukula added why Ghana’s Boys and Girls teams are made up of academy players.

“What we did was to send out invites to players who qualify from the various academies that we have all over the country. I wouldn’t say it was wide enough because of the time limits.

Ideally, the crop of players should have come from the SHS-Senior High School- level but we’ve not had a championship in the SHS so we’ve had to rely on the academies to give us these players. The coaches will look at them then we will have our final 12 we will take into the competition.”
