African Beach Games: Zaira Forson withdraws from swimming competition

Ghanaian swimmer Zaira Akua Forson has been forced to withdraw from the 5km open water competition in this year’s African Beach Games.

Forson had to withdraw from the competition after getting stung by a jellyfish with the 2023 edition of the Beach Games expected to end later today. This year’s edition of the African Beach Games has been hosted in Hammamet in Tunisia.

Apparently, Forson wasn’t the only swimmer to stop competing due to the jelly fish sting as six other swimmers suffered the same fate.

In all, seven of the 10 swimmers expected to compete in the event withdrew due to this issue that denied Ghana the chance to add to its medal tally at the Games in the process.

Earlier in the African Beach Games that commenced on June 24, Ghana won its first ever medal at the Games after Teqball duo Sylvester Oko Nartey and Daniel Fobi won bronze.
