According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, FIGC will announce Luciano Spalletti as Italy’s new head coach tomorrow despite a release clause in his Napoli contract.

The Certaldo-born tactician is set to meet FIGC President Gabriele Gravina today with the head of the Italian federation planning to confirm Spalletti’s appointment tomorrow, Saturday, August 19.

However, it is still unclear how the coach or FIGC will pay the €2.6m fee needed to free Spalletti from his agreement with Napoli.

Nevertheless, Gazzetta maintains that there are ‘no doubts’ Spalletti will replace Roberto Mancini at the helm of La Nazionale.

According to the report, the 64-year-old will be unveiled at a press conference in Rome on Monday, two days after the official announcement from FIGC.

Spalletti left Napoli after leading the Partenopei to their first Serie A title in 33 years in 2022-23. He agreed on a €3m release clause which diminishes by €250,000 every month.

Both Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis and club lawyer Mattia Grassani have recently reiterated that the club expect the release clause to be fully paid even if a national time hires their ex-coach.
