2023 AFCON qualifiers: Andre Onana handed Cameroon invitation amid Rigobert Song row

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been called up to Cameroon’s National Men’s Football Team ahead of the Indomitable Lions 2023 AFCON qualifier against Burundi.

Cameroon plays Burundi in the final round of qualification games on Tuesday, September 12 with both nations needing a win to qualify to next year’s competition.

Both nations are tied on four points after picking up a win, a draw and a loss in three games; Namibia tops Group C with five points.

Onana is one of three goalkeepers called up by head coach Rigobert Song for the game despite the former Inter Milan shot stopper announcing his retirement on the back of a major fallout with Song.

Cameroon’s campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup was rocked by Onana’s dismissal from the team’s base after he clashed with Song’s directive to change his risky style of manning the post.
