Sports Equity Lab and On rally behind Ghana basketball team ahead of 2023 Africa Para Games

The Ghana Wheelchair Basketball team has received significant support in their preparations for the upcoming 2023 Africa Para Games through a valuable partnership with the non-profit organization, Sports Equity Lab.

This collaboration aims to provide crucial assistance to ensure the team’s success in the competition. As a tangible demonstration of their commitment, Sports Equity Lab has joined forces with the Seed Foundation to procure customized kits for the team, which will serve as their official jerseys throughout the tournament.

These eye-catching and unique kits were unveiled during a press conference held in Accra on Friday, September 1, 2023, and will be formally presented to the team on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

During the press conference, Yetsa Tuakli-Wosornu, the founder of Sports Equity Lab, expressed her belief in the potential of the wheelchair basketball team, referring to them as “rough diamonds.” She emphasized that with the right support and investment, the team has the potential to become one of the best in the continent.

Pops Mensah Bonsu, a retired basketball player and the president of Seed Ghana, used this occasion to advocate for increased support for underfunded sporting disciplines within the country. He highlighted the crucial role of organizations like his and the media in raising awareness about para-sporting disciplines and providing athletes with opportunities to excel. He underscored that this initiative is aligned with the common goal of assisting physically challenged individuals in society through the medium of sport.

Emmanuel Donkor, the president of the Ghana Wheelchair Basketball Federation, expressed deep gratitude to Seed Ghana and Sports Equity for their generous donation. He emphasized that this gesture would serve as a powerful source of motivation for his team, inspiring them to excel during the tournament.

The inaugural Africa Para Games are scheduled to commence on Sunday, September 3, 2023, with high hopes that both the male and female wheelchair basketball teams will bring home medals for the country.
