SQUASH: I’m elated the sport will feature in 2028 Olympic Games – Richmond Quarcoo

President of the Ghana Squash Association, Richmond Quarcoo, says one of the objectives of launching Phase One of the National Youth Development of the sport is to reduce the chances of Ghana’s youth engagement in social vices.

The first phase of the National Youth Development will commence in Accra across various sports clubs from the Achimota Sports Club to the Tesano Sports Club and others with the mindset of slowly integrating the youth into the sport.

Richmond Quarcoo added that the sport is a great exercise which aims at improving the cognitive lifestyle of the youth. He stated this in an interview with Citi Sports :

“It is very necessary in raising young people to play the sports, even before you talk about the world strategy and the African strategy put in place.”

RICHMOND QUARCOO – PRESIDENT OF GHANA SQUASH ASSOCIATION

“What the sport does for the young people, is that, there are people on the street who can get out of the street, if you introduce them to the sport, so they don’t engage in other social vices.”

Aside the agenda from the World and the African Federation, Ghana stands to benefit as an Association.

Squash is one of the five additional sports that will debut at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

Squash will also feature at the African Games for the first time in 20 years after being included on the programme for the event later in March next year.

Richmond Quarcoo, President of Ghana Squash Association shared his joy with Citi Sports at including the sport in the Olympic Games.

This is an agenda we have been pushing for all these years, for more than three decades, the World Squash Association has been pushing for our sport to be included in the Olympic Games.

We’ve done a lot of work behind the scenes, at the African level, we’ve put in a lot of effort in making sure our bidding to be included in the Olympic Games comes into fruition, finally we are here, we are so happy.
