LEGON CITIES ATTACK : Expedite talks with police for club security- GHALCA Boss urges GFA

President of the Ghana League Clubs Association, Kudjoe Fianoo, is urging the Ghana Football Association to expedite engagements with the Ghana Police Service to ensure that clubs which travel across the country are provided with adequate security escorts.

He said this in the wake of the latest robbery attack on Legon Cities in the early hours of Thursday morning after honouring their premier league game against Samartex 1996 at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex in Samreboi on Wednesday, October 2.

In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Kudjoe Fianoo stated that GHALCA and the Ghana Football Association must work together to fight the menace, which he believes has become recurring.

We need to get back to the police and see what we have to do to help the clubs.

When i was with Ashgold, we were doing similar thing at the Club, we even escalated to Accra, the police service there.

So anytime we travel outside the Ashanti Region, we were given two police escorts for the away matches, it comes with a cost tho.

However, I think as a precautionary measure, we must go back to the police, let us take the lives of the players and the officials as a premium.

We have to arrange something for the clubs, so they stop travelling overnight after games.

We are not lucky, our brothers from other countries travel by train or air.

Highway robbery is now widespread in Ghana and is not limited to football clubs alone. Still, in our industry, we are worried about what happens in our space, so I think that GHALCA has to collaborate with the Ghana Football Association to see the police once more and see what we can do for these clubs because it is becoming one too many.

The latest robbery attack on premier league side Legon Cities joins a list of robbery attacks on clubs in Ghana.
