GPLWK 14 : Steven Mukwala’s brace secures victory for Kotoko in Super “2” clash

Kumasi Asante Kotoko got the better of arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak as the two teams faced each other for the first time this season in the Super “2” clash played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, in the match week 14 fixture of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

It was the first time in the last three seasons this fixture produced five goals, with the Porcupine Warriors emerging victors over the Phobians.

Accra Hearts of Oak were playing at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium as the home team for the first time this season due to the unavailability of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians started brightly in the first half, dominating the away side from the opening whistle.

Linda Mtange put Hearts ahead in the 38th minute after connecting from a cross by Salifu Ibrahim.

Kotoko drew level just on the stroke of half-time through Isaac Oppong, who slotted home for the Porcupines.

Ugandan Striker Steven Dese Mukawala made it two for the Porcupines following a horrible save from Hearts goalkeeper, Richmond Ayi in the 56th minute.

Mukawala would then take his goal tally to five this season after notching a third goal for the Porcupines in the 75th minute to complete his brace.

Hearts of Oak later pegged Kotoko back through Martin Karikari late in the second half.

It ended 3-2 in favour of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, marking their fourth win in four games in the league. The result takes them into 7th on the league log with 22 points.

Next up for the Porcupines is a trip to Sogakope to face the Accra Great Olympics at the WAFA PARK on Boxing Day, December 24, 2023.

Accra Hearts of Oak on the other hand will face Nations FC at the Dr.Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Boing Day as well.
