Ghana super middleweight contender Sena “The African Assassin” Agbeko’s quest to win a world title took a big hit after suffering a second round knockout loss to David Morrell Jr.

The fight was originally scheduled to take place in April on the undercard of the Ryan Garcia-Gervonta Davis bout but got called off after the Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Agbeko’s license over a medical issue following an MRI scan. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

The bout took place at The Armory in Minneapolis where Cuban born Morrell Jr. is based and the highly rated super middleweight fighter didn’t disappoint his adopted home fans.

Fighting in front of his parents for the first time in Minneapolis, Morrell landed a straight left hand that staggered Agbeko and proceeded to land heavy punches before referee Mark Nelson stepped in and called off the fight.

The fight was stopped at 1:43 in the second round handing Morrell his 10th win in his 10th professional fight.

Morrell landed 68% of his power shots in the second round en route to retaining the WBA “Regular” super middleweight title in the process.

Agbeko on the other hand, suffered the third loss of his professional career and a much desired fight with former super middle weight champion Caleb Plant looks nearly impossible after this loss.

Morrell has called out WBC super-middleweight champion David Benavidez Jnr for a fight after the win.
