Black Stars AFCON opponent, Mozambique, secures win in friendly game

One of Ghana’s opponents at the upcoming 2023 AFCON, Mozambique, has secured a 2-0 win over Lesotho in an international friendly game.

The game forms part of Mozambique’s preparations for the continental tournament that runs from January 13 to February 11 in Cote D’Ivoire.

Goals from Athletico Madrid’s Reinildo Mandava in the 27th minute and a converted penalty attempt by Lau King in the 81st minute were enough for Mozambique to secure the win at the FNB Stadium in South Africa.

Other friendly games involving teams set to compete at the AFCON had Mali beat Guinea-Bissau 6-2 while host Cote D’Ivoire beat Sierra Leone 5-1.

Ghana’s Black Stars have been drawn in Group B against Mozambique, Egypt and Cape Verde with four time AFCON winners Ghana expected to progress to the next round.

The Black Stars are scheduled to play AFCON bound Namibia in a friendly game on Monday, January 8 in Kumasi at 20:00 GMT after a planned friendly game against Botswana got cancelled.
