Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana won’t compete in Cameroon’s 2023 AFCON opening game after deciding to opt out of the game against Guinea.

This is according to freelance sports journalist for Reuters and Sky Sports, Peter Hall, mere days to the start of the AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.

Prior to this announcement, the former Inter Milan stopper was scheduled to fly from Manchester to Cote D’Ivoire after Man United’s FA Cup tie against Wigan Athletic.

However, Onana has decided to carry on with Man United after the Red Devils picked up a 2-0 win over Wigan to progress to the fourth round.

According to Hall, Onana has decided to stick with the Red Devils over the Indomitable Lions after enduring a poor start to life with the record EPL winners.

Onana has been consistently at fault for several Man United goals particularly in the UEFA Champions League as Man United crashed out at the group stage.

The latest development adds to Onana’s strained relationship with the Cameroonian national team during the time of head coach Rigobert Song.

2019 AFCON winners Cameroon are in Group C with Guinea, Gambia and defending champions Senegal.
