13TH African Games carries immense significance for national development- Sports Minister

Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif has tagged the upcoming 13th African Games as an event that carries huge significance to Ghana’s national development.

He said this at the official commissioning of the Borteman Sports Complex by Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The commissioning of the plush sports facility also marks the 25 day countdown to the start of the multi -sport competition that runs from March 8 to March 23.

The African Games will be held in Ghana’s capital, Accra with the University of Ghana Stadium and Borteman Sports Complex as the main host venues.

Football games involving male and female teams are to be played out at the Accra Sports Stadium ad Cape Coast Stadium.

Honourable Ussif

Speaking at the event, Honourable Ussif underlined the importance for Ghana to host the event that doubles as qualifiers to the 2024 Paris Olympics in some sports disciplines.

“The forthcoming African Games carries immense significance for our national development and beyond. The event serves as a catalyst for progress, growth and development and the construction of state of the art facilities in the country not only provide the platform for athletes’ excellence but also contribute to the overall infrastructural development.”
