Ghana Beach Volleyball player, Paul Akan, has drummed the importance of winning a medal at the 13th African Games in light of Ghana hosting the competition for the first time.

He said this after the Ghanaian team beat Algeria 2-1 in the best of a three game series in a Round 12 single elimination game at the Laboma Beach in the Men’s Division.

The win qualifies Ghana to the quarterfinals of the competition and closer to a medal win Akan is all too aware of.

“It was not easy. Any team that represents its country they are very good in various categories. Team Ghana is going to the medal zone so every Ghanaian should expect that…this time we are hoping that it’s in Ghana and then we need to pick a medal here.”

In other Round 12 elimination games, Senegal beat Egypt 2-1 and Kenya beat Rwanda in two straight sets (2-0) in the Men’s Division while Egypt beat Angola in two straights sets and Mozambique beat Sierra Leone by the same score in the Women’s Division.
