13TH AFRICAN GAMES: Sports Minister points finger at Cycling Federation for equipment mishaps

Honourable Ussif

Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif has indicated that the Ghana Cycling Federation is to be blamed for the challenges athletes have experienced with equipment in the 13th African Games.

Ghana is hosting the African Games for the first time with the opening ceremony taking place from March 8 to March 23.

However, the early days of the competition have been rocked by issues concerning kitting, equipment and logistics.

Addressing the issues at a presser organized at the University of Ghana Stadium to address the challenges, the Sports Minister indicated the Ghana Cycling Federation was complicit in cyclists using outdated equipment for the competition.

“We requested all the sporting federations to submit their requirements…for the competition. So if you are the Cycling Federation we requested and you know that you needed a fibre bicycle not aluminum bicycle, it is your responsibility as a federation to submit your list to us.”

Competition in cycling continues today on the Pokuase-Ablekuma Highway.
