Ghana’s National Men’s Hockey Team coach Salya Nsalbina has described his team’s performance thus far in the 13th African Games as a “work in progress”.

He said this in an interview after seeing Ghana beat Kenya 3-1 in the pool stage of the competition at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.

After a barren first half, the game exploded into life in the second half with all goals scored in the half; Ghana scored all three goals in the third quarter.

Seeing his side clinch the win ahead of a big clash against Egypt on Tuesday, March 19, coach Nsalbina described his team’s run through the competition in the lead up to the big game.

“I think we’ve been working very hard for the past two months. It was a short time for us to prepare for this tournament but…I think we are a work in progress. Expect nothing less than a good game from us and as you can see the winning atmosphere is blooming for us so expect a win from us.”

It was a good day at the office for Team Ghana as the female team scored a 1-0 win over Nigeria earlier in the day.

The hockey competition has been overshadowed by top contender South Africa’s exit over poor organization and a substandard pitch. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
