Miscommunication led to my dismissal from Nigeria game- Jerome Opoku

Black Stars defender Jerome Opoku says miscommunication is the reason for his dismissal in Ghana’s game against Nigeria.

The 25 year old was red carded in the 56th minute in Ghana’s 1-2 loss to arch rival Nigeria in the first of two international friendly games lined up for the Black Stars.

The loss to Nigeria and upcoming game against Uganda on March 26 are Ghana’s first piece of action since getting eliminated from the 2023 AFCON at the group stage.

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo shared his thoughts on the issue and when quizzed about the circumstances that led to his shock dismissal, Opoku stated, (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“It was unfortunate to get sent off but yeah that’s the game. It was miscommunication. The referee, he thought I said something directly to him, an insult but I didn’t say anything of that sort” he said before touching on the difference between the Nigeria tie and his debut game against USA Ghana lost 4-0.

“For me, that game wasn’t good at all; it was my first game too and the way we played as a team didn’t help me at all. I definitely should have done better in that game but compared to this game, I feel it’s all positive. It’s something for me to build on and keep learning.”
