Accra2023: Nobody gave us a chance; glad we proved them wrong- Ghana Basketball Vice President

Team Ghana at 13th African Games

Ghana Basketball Federation Vice President (Administration), Alex Kukula, says he isn’t worried too much over Ghana missing out on a gold medal at the African Games.

Ghana won silver in the 13th African Games Men’s 3×3 Basketball event after losing 11-16 to Algeria in the final played at the University of Ghana Basketball Court.

Host nation Ghana failed to hold on to a four point lead established early in the game to miss out on a first ever gold medal in the competition.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Vice President Kukula said he isn’t bothered about the silver medal win but focused on the giant steps taken by the basketball fraternity through the African Games.

“For me, it’s not about winning silver or gold, it’s about the effort we put in and what has come out of it. I think there were a lot of doubters because we’ve never played in any high level competition and nobody ever gave us a chance to win anything. I’m so proud of their performance.”

Ghana’s Women’s Team reached the quarterfinals before a late collapse cost them a spot in the semifinals after losing 17-19 to Nigeria in overtime.
