Boxing: Still gathering information behind controversial decision on Bastie Samir- GBA Comms Director

Communications Director of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mohammed Amin Lamptey, has assured stakeholders that the GBA will handle matters related to the controversial technical draw decision on the Bastie Samir-Rasheed Idowu fight.

The fight took place this past weekend at Kawukudi and had Ghanaian boxer Bastie get knocked out in the second round but the bout, put together for the vacant UBO African Light Heavyweight belt, was scored a technical draw despite the fight being waved off by the referee after Samir hit the canvas.

Veteran boxing commentator Amin Lamptey, slammed the decision and described it as illogical and added that the Ghana Boxing Authority will investigate the issue in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports.

“People are saying a lot of things so we are listening, we are still gathering all the information. The obvious point is that the decision that the ring announcer pronounced was not the right decision. The only thing that the GBA will do is that to make sure we are going to stamp our authority and make sure it will never be repeated.”

Samir rose to prominence in Ghana boxing circles after beating Braimah “Bukoum Banku” Kamoko via a technical knockout in the seventh round in 2017.
