Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club assistant head coach, Abdul Rahim Bashiru, has dismissed the notion that Accra Lions played better than his side when the teams faced off in a Ghana Premier League tie played out today at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Accra Lions beat Hearts of Oak 1-0 to condemn the latter to its fourth loss in five games on the back of losses to Legon Cities, Medeama SC and Bibiani Gold Stars.

Lions bagged the game’s only goal in the 56th minute through Ibrahima Issah who planted the ball into the roof of the net after a brilliantly worked build up.

Speaking in a post game interview after the loss, Rahim Bashiru bemoaned his team’s profligacy and was adamant that Lions wasn’t better than his team but took its chance to score the goal that got them the win.

“No I don’t think so because from the blast of the whistle we controlled the game. In the first half, there were a lot of spaces in their team and we should have punished them but we didn’t take our chances. I don’t think they played better than us but just that they took the chance that they had and scored a goal. That’s the difference.”

This latest loss piles more pressure on Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara who replaced regular goalkeeper Richard Attah with Kwesi Nketiah to face Accra Lions. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
