GHPL: “We deserved to beat Berekum Chelsea”- Kotoko head coach Prosper Ogum

Asante Kotoko head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, believes that his team should have been on the victorious side of the 2-1 reverse they suffered at the Golden City Park in Week 30 of the Ghana Premier League.

The Reds failed to build on the 15th-minute lead given to them by a Stephen Mukwala goal and they conceded twice from a Stephen Amankona penalty and a Mezack Afriyie goal in the 95th minute.

Dr. Ogum told StarTimes after the match that Kotoko shoudl have picked up the three points up for grabs because of their performance on the day.

“We deserved to have to won the game today. We played better and we created some decent chances that we should have taken but you saw what happened. It was all intimidation.”

Ogum added that his game plan had to be altered because of the forced exit of Ivorian midfielder, Serge Eric Zeze and that was a major challenge for the team.

“Zeze’s injury was a big blow to us because he has played in that position for some time now and he has gotten the experience and the composure but because he had to go out, we had to do a forced tactical substitution.

We were able to keep the tempo but along the line, we could not maintain it. When Yahaya Baba and Nicholas Mensah had to fill in, they did well when had to change the tactical re-orientation.”

The loss was Kotoko’s first since the April 14 when they were defeated by Dreams FC in Dawu and it has left them on 10th place on the table ahead of the Super Clash with Hearts of Oak on May 26 in Kumasi.
