2024 French Open: Ghanaian-Italian Jasmine Paolini loses to Iga Swiatek in Final

28 year old Italy born Ghanaian tennis player, Jasmine Paolini, has missed out on winning her first Grand Slam title after losing in the 2024 French Open Final.

Paolini lost in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) to Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros ending a brilliant run that saw her qualify to compete in here first ever grand slam final.

World number one seed, Swiatek of Poland, won her fourth French Open Singles title in the process and fifth grand slam overall.

Swiatek has won the French Open in three straight years; Paolini’s Ghanaian ancestry is from her maternal grandfather.

En route to the final, Paolini, who is also of Polish and Danish descent, beat former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu and fourth seed Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively.

Making it to the French Open final represents what has been an impressive 2024 with Paolini winning the Dubai Tennis Championship and the Italian Open in the Doubles Event.

After missing out on winning the 2024 French Open Singles title, Paolini and partner Sara Errani lost in the Doubles title to American Coco Gauff and Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova.
