2026 FIFA WCQ: Ghanaians react to Ati-Zigi’s performance against C.A.R

A cross section of football fans has blasted the performance of Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi in the Black Stars’ 4-3 win over Central African Republic (CAR).

The win was registered at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in Ghana’s second and last 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in 2024.

Jordan Ayew headlined the game with a hat trick to cancel out Louis Mafouta’s hat trick and complete a comeback for Ghana after trailing 2-1 at half time. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Jordan Ayew’s hat trick is the first by a Black Stars player since 2017 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Republic of Congo in 2017.

Ghana conceded twice in the first half off defensive mistakes and fans criticized goalkeeper Ati-Zigi’s role in the second goal after Mafouta capitalized on a hesitation from Ati-Zigi and Gideon Mensah to clear the ball.

Several fans weren’t happy with Ati-Zigi’s performance as Ghana held on to register its third win in four qualifier games.
