Essence of the Democracy Cup is to embrace outcome of elections- Kobena Woyome

Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency Wisdom Kobena Woyome

Ranking Member on the Sports Committee in Ghana’s Parliament, Wisdom Kobena Woyome, has spelt out the essence of the Democracy Cup which he believes was achieved in the maiden edition of the event at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He said this in an interview with Channel One Sports after competing in a curtain raiser game between a Ghana Parliament Select Team and former Black Stars players. The ex Black Stars players’ team, lost 3-1.

In his speech, the Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency’s thoughts aligned with those of Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Evans Bobie Opoku. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

“Look at the euphoria, look at the joy, look at the happiness this has brought. Elections (Presidential and Parliamentary) this year, we all pray that it goes this way. The Democracy Cup, this is the essence of it; that we all embrace the outcome of elections so that we avoid fighting and troubles.”

In the main event, Accra Hearts of Oak lost to big rival Kumasi Asante Kotoko 2-1 marking the third time in a row Hearts have lost to Kotoko.
