Marketing and Sports Business Consultant Magnus RexDanquah says he supports the idea of renting out stadiums for non-sport-related income, despite the criticism the National Sports Authority (NSA) has faced for doing so.
The NSA, which is responsible for managing state-owned sports facilities, has been heavily criticized, leading to the dismissal of its Director General, Dodzie Numekevor, due to the deteriorated condition of multiple stadia and the loss of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium’s license to host Category C matches by CAF.
In an interview with Channel One Sports, RexDanquah criticized the NSA for failing to obtain protective covers for the pitch, adding that, he is not a subscriber of the National Sports Authority managing the various national facilities.
He argued that using covers is the proper approach, rather than setting up chairs and podiums directly on the playing surface.
They deserve the bashing because there’s something that you do when you are doing events on pitches.
And if you go out to any of the topmost pitches you see, there are things you put on the grass before you put your seats there.
So the seats do not touch the grass.
It’s on those plastic things. So you cover every area. You don’t have to own them as a sports authority. Your condition is if you want to use it, rent that, come and cover and I charge you.
And then you also charge a certain percentage for damages.
So you really don’t lose anything after the events because you understand you have to repay.
So these are the things that you don’t do.
But see it as business.
I don’t believe in sports authority managing the facilities.
